Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think)

Jes 12 Comments

Just finished watching the final episode of House and at the end is this classic song. It's a cool ending to the show and really make me wonder about my rat-race life now. Now is the holidays seasons and this serves as a good reminder to all of us:

By Guy Lombardo

You work and work for years and years, you're always on the go
You never take a minute off, too busy makin' dough
Someday you say, you'll have your fun, when you're a millionaire
Imagine all the fun you'll have in your old rockin' chair

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

You're gonna take that ocean trip, no matter come what may
You've got your reservations made, but you just can't get away
Next year for sure, you'll see the world, you'll really get around
But how far can you travel when you're six feet underground?

Your heart of hearts, your dream of dreams, your ravishing brunette
She's left you and she's now become somebody else's pet
Lay down that gun, don't try my friend to reach the great beyond
You'll have more fun by reaching for a redhead or a blond

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

You never go to night clubs and you just don't care to dance
You don't have time for silly things like moonlight and romance
You only think of dollar bills tied neatly in a stack
But when you kiss a dollar bill, it doesn't kiss you back

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

Jes

  1. Hi Jes,

It's my down time too. Rat race... Perhaps the good thing about it is it made us appreciate our family time ...

Even I dun race, I am
    Still a rat...

    1. Hi SI,

December is the holidays season, great time to relax, chill and enjoy. Hahaha, we are all rats in this mega race, running on the treadmill until who knows when.... sigh. Ok, cheer up and hope for fat bonus! :)

  2. Hi Jes,
Thanks for that reminder that the primary purpose in life is to enjoy it. In the ideal world enjoyment will replace wanting as motivating power behind people’s actions.
When I make NOW, instead of the past or the future, the focal point of my life, my ability to enjoy what I do – and with it the quality of my life – increases dramatically. I focus on having a high “joy-to-stuff-ratio” getting maximum enjoyment out of my limited resources and believe that there is more meaning in joy than I will ever need.

    1. Hi Tacomob,

I think you have reached 'nirvana' hahaha... with the good focus of achieving enjoyment as your end point. Many people chase after dollars but forgot that the dollars should be used to bring happiness and enjoyment... That's why we still need the occasional reminders on our priorities in life.

I am glad you are clear of your purpose in life, have fun during this rainy festive season! :)

  3. Hi Jes

What is important is what are you going to do now? If not, the poor rat will still continue and continue running aimlessly

    1. Hi FD,

Yeah I will want to have an end point like what you are planning now. Right now, I am still looking for my purpose in life and what I really want to do. Oh well, this rat just has got to keep running for the near future, but in the meantime, enjoying my holidays season :P

  4. Hi Jes,

You are thinking too highly of me. I have not reached 'nirvana' at all. My "focus" is still flawed, because I am still way too often "off-focus". haha
Jes, as long as your personal rat is running towards a clearly defined direction and not in a wheel, every step is a step in the right direction. Enjoy each of your steps during your holidays.

    1. Hi Tacomob,

You just seemed to be heading in the right direction... 'nirvana' will be reached sooner or later :)

I like what you said about running towards a defined direction and that's just it, I am still looking for my direction! I hope to find a clear path soon but not sure when the light bulb will go off... Thank you and let's all have fun!

  5. Hi Jes,

Seems like the YOLO thing is popular lately.

I will like to say it's all about "BALANCE". Sometimes bad once a while can be neutralise by very good.

But honestly, just have the courage to GO DO THE RIGHT THINGS for yourself as long as after some serious thoughts!

"How many ten years do we have in life?" Not many.....

    1. Hi Rolf,

The difficult part is knowing what's the right things to do! Actually I would say that most people care too much of how people judge them than to do what they want to do. Not many years in our life so must YOLO hehehe. Enjoy your holidays! :)

  6. Hi Jes,

Tks. Holiday not yet for me. It's biz trip. Holiday will come later in the year.. :-)

Yes, u r right about the difficulty of knowing what is right. That's y u need to understand fully yourself first, before knowing what is the right thing for u. And to know urself, u need more exposures and life experiences, do it, fail, learn and understand. So u need to "do it" first!

    1. Hi Rolf,

Ok yes sir! I will get more experiences and keep failing haha. Right now, I am in a too comfortable role where I have a good job and still many years before I can get to the next management phase. More like waiting for something to happen. Ahhhh.
